The government reveals that almost 43,000 young people have benefited from the tax exemption scheme created in the summer of last year to make it easier to buy their own permanent home.
Speaking about housing policies, Luís Montenegro recalled in the Assembly of the Republic, where he is presenting the Government Program, that “we implemented a tax exemption scheme for IMT and Stamp Duty”, in addition to the public guarantee.
And he took the opportunity to update the figures for the tax exemption. “As of May 31, it has already been used by 42,740 beneficiaries,” said the Prime Minister.
"We're talking about the middle class. A qualified middle class, qualified young people who have had the opportunity to buy a home and thus strengthen our capacity to work," he added.
These almost 43,000 beneficiaries show a strong acceleration in the number of young people who have used this facility. By mid-March, the measure had reached 25,933 young people.
This exemption from IMT and Stamp Duty, as well as registration fees, covers young people up to the age of 35 who are purchasing their first permanent home, up to a value of 316,722 euros.
The measure launched in August 2024 also offers the possibility of financing housing up to 633,453 euros, albeit partially. In other words, the exemption only applies up to 316,722, with young people having to pay IMT and IS on the excess.
