At the corner of Avenida da República and Rua Luís de Camões, in Vila Nova de Gaia, Intra Douro, a company belonging to the Azinor group, which owns the Sana Hotels brand, demolished an old mill to build Evolution Gaia, the name of the luxury hotel opening next year, having taken out a €30 million “green loan” with BPI, with a term of 15 years.
“The loan, fully organized and underwritten by BPI, is intended to support the construction of the new Evolution Gaia, a modern hotel that will strengthen the tourist accommodation offer in the Porto region,” the financial institution said in a statement.
Evolution Gaia will be a four-star hotel with 185 rooms, a restaurant, gym, and spa. BPI emphasized that the building “will be subject to energy certification, with the investment having strong sustainability concerns and objectives,” it said.
Operating 17 hotels and more than 2,900 rooms under the Sana Hotels brand, Azinor explains that “the Evolution brand represents the group's commitment to modern and technological concepts, aimed at a very well-defined target market.”
