The Urban Rehabilitation Operation project for the Encostas do Douro Urban Rehabilitation Area (ARU) is now under public discussion.

A housing development with 90 units (one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments) intended for affordable rental is about to be built in Laborim, in the parish of Mafamude. The new construction is part of the Local Housing Strategy – 1st Right Program and represents an investment of €17 million, fully financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the European Union (NextGenerationEU).

The construction of two multi-family buildings is underway in Pedroso, in the area of the Pisão elementary school, under the 1st Right, for a total of 60 dwellings (types T1, T2, and T3), with an investment of around 12 million euros.

Three tenders are open for the allocation of 30 permanent housing units under the Affordable Rent Program. Applications must be submitted between June 1 and June 30, 2025, and are open to all citizens who live or work in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Vila Nova de Gaia is to have a new urban park as a result of a protocol signed on May 29 between the municipality and real estate developer Promiris, which will transfer 26,000 square meters of land for public use, creating a new green area next to Cais do Cavaco.

On May 29, the collaboration protocol between Futebol Clube do Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia City Council for the implementation of the Futebol Clube do Porto Academy in Gaia was signed in the main hall of the Paços do Concelho. The infrastructure will be financed entirely by the club.

On May 27, Gaia City Council signed a partnership with two private companies to build 100 affordable homes in the parish of Oliveira do Douro. The municipal goal, which is part of the Local Housing Strategy, is to build 2,000 houses using this model and sell them at affordable prices.

Vila Nova de Gaia City Council wants to sell three plots of land (between 74.00m2 and 239.00m2) on Rua Água da Sombra, in Vilar de Andorinho.

Distinction awarded to the Bairros 2030+i project in the category of Equality, Diversity and Equity in the Social Area.

The project is scheduled to last 15 months and aims to upgrade the public space.

The mechanical connections project at Gaia Castle was awarded the “Cities and Towns that Walk” prize.

The investor, based in the Netherlands, sold plots of land in the Paço de Rei subdivision to a local investor.
